Educational sparring and support for in-house educators and teachers
To tailor your education to you and your expertise

"Hey Anneke, I have just been asked to teach a workshop to a group of junior lawyers. Can you help me put it together?"
"Of course! Tell me, what will the workshop be about and why is it important that they learn this?"
We will start at the beginning: the objectives, the target group, the content and the practical framework. Then we will start designing together. In several 1,5-4 hour sparring sessions, we will set up the design, develop learning activities, discuss the didactics and create the learning materials. When we are finished, you will have a workshop that will allow you to share your expertise in a way that is best suited to you, your content and your students.

"Absolutely. What are the things that you would like to work on?"
We will take a workshop or course that you are going be teaching as a starting point. During our first sparring session, we will discuss where you are at with your teaching right now, where you would like to go and what you feel your working points are. We will also have a look at the workshop/course you will be teaching. Teaching and educational design are always interconnected, so I will both thoroughly review your workshop/course design, teaching materials (PPT, worksheets, etc.), and come and observe you - in person or remotely - while you are teaching, in order to give you my professional feedback.
In a 1,5-2 hour feedback session, we will discuss both your working points and my observation points. I will also teach you how to look at your design through didactic lens. You will then use my feedback to work on your teaching and make improvements to your workshop/course design and materials. When you are ready, you will send me your new (version of your) materials and I will come and observe you again, after which we have another feedback session.
This we repeat until you are satisfied and you feel confident and happy teaching. Depending on your starting point, this usually means 3-4 cycles, including the start-up session.

"Hi Anneke, do you have time to spar with me about a learning activity?"
"Yes, I have time for you this afternoon. Would you rather have a Teams meeting or talk on the phone?"
In a 1-3 hour sparring session, we will first briefly discuss the context (objectives, target group, practical framework). Based on this, I will come up with all kinds of possibly matching learning activities, which we will then evaluate for suitability together, and build upon until we have designed a clear framework that will allow you to get on with adding your content and finishing the development of the learning activity yourself.

"Hi Anneke, we aren't entirely satisfied with our current onboarding program. Could you have a look at it for us to see what we could improve?
"Sure! Can you tell me a bit more about your current onboarding program?"
During the start-up session, you will first tell me as much as possible about the current training program: how is it set up at the moment, with regards to educational design, teachers, practical framework, objectives, target group, etc. Then we will discuss what you have in mind: what would you like your improved training program to look like and to achieve?
After that I will get started on my analysis of the design, the learning materials and the teaching & learning sessions.
We will then discuss my findings in one or multiple (depending on the size of the project) feedback sessions, and I will make recommendations for improvements. This advice could pertain to the design itself, to the support of your teachers, to the learning activities and/or materials, etc. You can then get to work on improving your training program yourself, or, if you like, I can help by making (some of) the improvements for you.

Do you ever think: wouldn't it be great to have someone with a fresh and independent point of view to discuss my educational ideas and challenges with? Someone who can help me think outside the box, translate my ideas into practical solutions and who can pivot instantly when proposed solutions meet (organizational) limitations? Someone who I can collaborate with to transform my expertise into an engaging learning experience for my students/colleagues, which allows them to actually learn what I want them to learn and have a good time doing it?
To all you (university) teachers, educational developers and experts in your field, I will say: "Look no further, you have found her."
With my extensive experience as a educational consultant, designer and teacher coach in leading universities and specialized companies (law, engineering, languages), I have a big suitcase full of questions, ideas and examples. Combined with my creative mind and ability to see and take 'the road less traveled by', you will find in me a good listener, inventive idea generator and solid educational specialist.
Contact me if you would like me to:
- Be your independent sparring partner with whom you can freely discuss your educational ideas and challenges
- Support you in innovating your courses, curricula and assessment
- Co-design your learning experiences (courses, workshops, conferences, etc.)
